With the disruption in recycling services due to the highway blockage, the regional district is now facing a backlog.
Community Services General Manager Jenny Brunn says they’re especially overwhelmed with cardboard, and are asking people to hold off on recycling cardboard and boxboard for now.
“We’ve seen a huge increase in cardboard with the increase in online shopping in the last few years,” she said. “This has been amplified especially now, and we’re seeing more cardboard now than we’ve ever seen before in the valley.”
She hopes the cardboard backlog will be cleared by next week and asks people to make sure they break down boxes before recycling them.
