A firm date and time of the Highway 4 re-opening has yet to be announced as crews race to install cement barriers and lift debris curtains over Angel Rock.
Another MVI on the alternate highway yesterday underscores the danger of travelling on that gravel, forest service road.
Mayor Sharie Minions said discussions have begun about securing a safe, paved second route in and out of Port Alberni.
“The Province and the Federal governments understand the issue and the importance of it and I think are ready to support,” she said. “The solution may not come overnight but it’s going to be a prioritized conversation about what progress we can make very soon to insure we’re in a better position if there’s another situation.”
The Ministry of Transportation said there is no scheduled reopening of Highway 4 this weekend, as they plan to open the road the moment it’s deemed safe.
