Port Alberni saw a record amount of construction last year, which continues into this year.
291 units were created last year, with a value of $95.6 million.
Deputy City CEO Scott Smith says most of the new construction was multi-family apartment buildings.
“Probably one of the busiest construction values I’ve ever seen,” he said. “A lot of that was multi-family residential which adds a lot of new housing choices for the community and adds long-tern additional taxes to provide city services.”
Construction values for 2022 were almost double the previous year, and almost triple the year before.
