Plans for a small log mill to be built on the Catalyst lands have changed.
The San Group says noise concerns have led them to put their re-manufacturing facility on the Stamp Avenue site, and build the small log sawmill beside their Coulson Mill.
AJ Cheema, Vice-President of Corporate Development for the San Group said there were neighbourhood concerns about noise and dust in the centre of the city, and the change of plans made sense.
Cranes were offloading some of the main components of the small log mill at the Coulson site yesterday, and equipment will be coming from around the world to process 2,000 cubic metres a day of 3 to 14 inch logs, and is expected to start operations in 3 months.
The Catalyst lands will be completely paved and a technologically advanced reman facility could be up-and running in 5 months.
The change means fewer log trucks heading through town, and quieter nights for neighbouring hotel guests according to Cheema.
