The Bulldogs won a fourth straight home game Saturday night, 5-3 over the Coquitlam Express. Cole Bishop scored twice, while Wyatt Blace, Caden Tremblay and Teague McAllister also scored. The Bulldogs host the Victoria Grizzlies tonight, and visit the Grizzlies tomorrow, a 6:00pm start.
The Bombers had their season come to an end with a 5-3 loss at home Thursday night in the VIJHL’s North Final to the Campbell River Storm. Jack Barrett, Zach Spafford and Grayson Salmon scored. The game was tied at 3-3 after 40 minutes, with the Storm scoring the winner eight minutes into the third.
Campbell River moves on to face the Peninsula Panthers in the VIJHL final.
Alberni Wrestling Competes at BC Club Championships
The Alberni Valley Wrestling Club recently attended the BC Club Championships and the Canada Summer Games Trials in New Westminster, achieving a commendable 7th place overall. The team faced strong competition from the best clubs in the province. Individual results from the BC Club Championships are as follows: Danika Currie secured 2nd place, Nolan Cross 2nd, Alex Bielert 4th, Kane Olsen 5th, Seth Romeril 5th, Trenton Makofka 7th, Jackson Price 7th, while Rain Olsen, Reese Gatenby, and Gavin Fong did not place.
At the Canada Summer Games Trials, only the province’s top eight wrestlers in each weight class competed for a spot on the Canada Summer Games BC team. Results include Andrei Makofka 2nd, Janna Hiltz placing 5th, Danika Currie 4th, Nolan Cross 5th, Kane Olsen 6th, Seth Romeril 6th, Jackson Price 5th, , and Alex Bielert 7th.
The team also had the opportunity to participate in a private clinic with BC high-performance women’s coach, Sukhan Chahal, gaining valuable experience and top-notch instruction.
With just five days to prepare, Alberni Wrestling is now gearing up for the Twin City 3 Style Challenge in Centralia, Washington, where wrestlers will compete in both freestyle and American folk style wrestling for the first time. The club is proud of their hard work and dedication and looks forward to their continued success.
