Bulldogs slide hits six, Bombers streak to four, Nicklin earns World Cup berth, Wrestling, Rugby updates

The Bulldogs saw their losing streak stretch to six games with back to back losses over the weekend. They fell 3-2 in Surrey to the Eagles on Friday night. Alexander Stahl and Jacob Terpstra scored. They dropped a 4-1 decision to the Chiefs in Chilliwack Saturday night. Gianni DiVita had the lone marker. They finally return to home ice this weekend with games against Prince George and Nanaimo Friday and Saturday.

The Port Alberni Bombers won back to back games over the weekend, to stretch their win streak to four. They shut out the Saanich Predators 5-0 on the road Friday night. Owen Ditzel scored twice, John Sheilds, Zak Green and Leim Smith added singles and Damien Knackstedt earned the shut out in net. They earned a 1-0 win over the league leading Peninsula Panthers Saturday night at home. Zach Spafford netted the only goal of the game, and Evan Grant earned the shut out in net. The Bombers host the Oceanside Generals Wednesday night.

The ADSS Wrestling Team Shines at Seaforth Cup

The ADSS wrestling team recently showcased their talent and determination at the Seaforth Cup held in Vancouver on January 25. This competition, coupled with a joint practice session with other teams on the preceding Friday, provided an excellent platform for the team to enhance their skills and team-building abilities ahead of the Alberni Invitational and the Island Championships.

The ADSS team was represented by 14 boys and five girls, all focused on gaining valuable experience and building towards peak performance for the Island and BC Championships in February. Coach Maureen Miller praised the team’s efforts and highlighted the importance of the experience in preparation, handling nerves, and responding to challenging matches.

Additional ADSS wrestlers who competed include Taj LaBrie, Marcus Newton, Rain Olsen, Seth Romeril, and Ashton Pavan.

Eight wrestlers stayed on the lower mainland to compete on Sunday January 26th in the Miri Piri Club Championship where they gained valuable experience. Coach Richelle Mackenzie was impressed with the athletes stamina and resilience in competing in back to back tournaments.

Looking ahead, the ADSS team is now focused on preparing for the 40th annual Alberni Invitational, the most revered BC high school wrestling tournament of the season. We invite the community to come out and support the ADSS wrestling team. Dual meet matches are scheduled for 8:45 AM and 11:20 AM on Friday, January 31. The tournament will commence at 2:00 PM on January 31 with consolation & championship rounds, continuing through the morning and afternoon of Saturday, February 1 at the ADSS gymnasium.
