The Bulldogs return from their All-Star break and head back on the road this weekend. They visit the Surrey Eagles Friday night, and the Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday night.
Game time Friday night is 7:00pm, while the puck drops at 6:00pm Saturday night in Chilliwack.
The Port Alberni Bombers also return from their All-Star break this weekend. They visit the Saanich Predators at 6:30pm on Friday night. They return to home ice Saturday night to host the league leading Peninsula Panthers.
ADSS Wrestlers Victorious at the Campbell River Invitational
The ADSS wrestling team competed over the weekend at the Campbell River Invitational. The ADSS boys team was first place in a combined junior and senior boys division and the girls team secured a 3rd place finish.
Gold medalists were won by Holly Coatta, Kamryn Mallon, Kane Olsen, Trenton Makofka, Janna Hiltz and Andrei Makofka with Silver medal winners being Rhea Brown, Eli Bayley, Danika Currie, Marcus Newton, Reese Gatenby and Alex Bielert. Grade 8 wrestler Alex Edgar won bronze.
Other placings included Gavin Fong and Ashton Pavan clinching 4th place finishes and Rain Olsen 5th and a 6th place finish for Dayson Larson.
Grade 11 wrestler Andrei Makofka was invited to compete by tournament organizers in a champion’s challenge match against Vanier’s Jacob Price for a special outstanding wrestler showdown to win the outstanding wrestler belt voted on by coaches, Campbell River wrestling club alumni and officials. Ultimately the belt went to Courtenay’s Jolina Healey in an impressive finish against hometown favourite Fayth Pontius.
“It was great to see so many of our wrestlers beginning to put together some of the things that we have been working on this season, this is the point in the season that you look to fine tune technique and continue to build their stamina” noted ADSS coach Maureen Miller. ADSS wrestlers look forward to competing next weekend at the Seaforth cup and continuing preparations for the Alberni Invitational.
The Alberni Invitational will be held on January 31st and February 1st at ADSS. “We are looking forward to competing at home against some lower mainland teams for the McEvay Post on Friday morning starting at 8:30am, this is a highlight for many of our wrestlers” ADSS coach Travis Cross shared. Opening ceremonies for the tournament start at 1:30pm on Friday and from 9-4 on Saturday. Admission is free to the public.

Port Alberni Native Chase Nicklin picked up another podium finish this season competing for the Nexgen National Para Snowboard team as he finished third at the Landgraaf Europa Cup in the Netherlands. He began the season with a first place finish in Dubai last month.
