Highway 4 is about to face daily closures as rocks loosed by the Cameron Bluff fire are cleared from the slopes above the road.
Starting Monday, the highway will be closed from 9am until 5pm with a two-hour opening between 11:30 and 1:30 during the week, but open to single-lane alternating traffic again on weekends.
During the openings, westbound traffic will be released at 11:30 a.m. and eastbound released by 12:30 p.m.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the rock scaling can only be done during good weather and daylight hours, and is critical to ensure the long-term safety of the corridor.
MoTI Minister Rob Fleming says he recognizes this has been a challenging time for businesses and the tourism sector, and crews are working as quickly as possible to get this main corridor safely operating at full capacity again.
They estimate the closures will be in place until mid-August.
