We could see greater public access to backroad areas in the New Year according to regional district staff.
Mosaic Forest Management requested a meeting with the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and the Province to discuss improving access to parks and recreational areas.
ACRD Land and Resources Coordinator Heather Zenner said there is a new desire from the company to find solutions to local concerns.
“The Alberni Valley has been hit hard by the amount of private land we have surrounding our valley,” she said. “They made some commitments when Mosaic was formed last year, and hey want to use us as an example; they want to make it work.”
Zenner said many people have called her office to complain that access to Mount Arrowsmith Regional Park is often blocked by a series of closed Mosaic gates.
She said the groups will be discussing an initial terms of reference at their meeting in January.
